Time sure flies and we’re already saying good bye to our winter neighbors.  Again this year the club will be selling pickleballs for you to take to your summer home if you need them.  See Jim Hamann (630-514-5614) if you want the dura 40, $10 for 6 or $20 for 12.

And when you return in the fall you will see (hopefully) the slope by court 4 repaired.  In our recent vote the club chose to fund installation of an information board (79% voted yes) and repair of the slope by court 4 (82% voted yes).  The information board design is still being finalized and will begin working its way through the HOA approval process.  And the courts should be resurfaced by then as well.

You will also see changes in some of the club design.  We will begin charging Membership Dues of $15/person for the playing year.  While the dues will cover the cost of balls they are primarily being implemented as a tool to manage the membership list.  Dues will be required to play in scheduled events, vote on club issues, and continue to remain on the mailing list.  You can still play socially and have access to the blog (soon to be web page) without the dues.

There will be some minor changes in our player rating process but at this time the details are still being worked out.

The following invitation was received by a woman at Palm Creek so if you are interested in playing in tournaments she can help:

It is never too early to start planning for Pickleball Tournaments next year and If you are looking for a partner for tournament play next season, Diane Martin, from Palm Creek, is willing to keep a record and pass names along. If interested, send her your name, tournament age,and who you are looking for, male, female, along with your email and your current pickleball rating. Diane will pass along all the names and info of players who match your request.  Any questions, contact Diane at or 585-544-0990.

The final potluck of the season is Wednesday, April 11 at 6:00 pm.  It will be your last chance this season to eat with your friends before we go our separate ways.  Travel safe and have a good summer!

Time is running out to sign up for the In House Tournament to be held February 22-24.  Details are on the blog (, sign up forms are available at the courts.  Deadline for entry is February 15.  Sign up and come enjoy 3 days of play with your friends and fellow club members.

Referee Training
There appears to be enough folks interested in trying their hand at refereeing so we’ll be holding another class.  Probably late February or early March.  Once a date is selected you will have a chance to sign up so we know how many materials to have on hand.

Lost and Found
Please check your pickleball bag for a ring and watch that was accidently dropped in the wrong black backpack.  Jim McVeigh would like to have the items back if you have them.

And HYDRATE while you're out there.  It is really warm in the afternoons!   katie

WHAT A SUCCESS!!!!  The just completed USAPA pickleball tournament was a big success, all thanks to the many volunteers who made it happen.  A big THANK YOU to all who contributed time, energy, food, ideas, etc. to making this a success.  We would like to get together again to visit with our friends while there is time to relax and interact.  With that in mind there will be a PIZZA PARTY AT THE COURTS for all volunteers on Saturday, February 3, at 5:00 pm.  There will be pizza and cake, bring your own chair and beverage of choice.  We can swap stories and adventures from the 4 days.  All volunteers are invited to celebrate, bring your spouses too.

We have recently changed the training program for the club and there is a new schedule.  There has been a third session added and lessons are now divided by skill level.  This will give our instructors smaller groups and allow them to focus their instruction to a narrower range of skills.  The big change is 3.0 lessons will now be on Tuesday evenings at 4:00 pm.  Please see the attached schedule, the change is effective Saturday, February 3.

There have been several changes in the rules for pickleball too.  Although many of them apply to tournament players some will affect club play as well.  We have attached a summary of the new rules and you can see them in their entirety on the web site. We are considering another class to train referees so if that is something you are interested in trying please let a board member or your court coordinator know.  We need to have at least 5 people to hold the class.

Enjoy the game, enjoy your fellow players, and have fun.

The Committee that was formed to develop alternatives for new courts, including costs, has completed their work.  A big THANK YOU to Robert Graham, Glen Berger, and Duncan Ross for all the amazing work they did in developing the alternatives and assigning costs.  Please remember these are NOT decision documents but a reference tool for future discussions on possibilities for additional courts.  If you have questions feel free to contact one of these gentlemen or any member of the governing body.  Save Travels to all and HAPPY SUMMER!!
