There appears to be enough folks interested in trying their hand at refereeing so we’ll be holding another class.  Probably late February or early March.  Once a date is selected you will have a chance to sign up so we know how many materials to have on hand.

Lost and Found
Please check your pickleball bag for a ring and watch that was accidently dropped in the wrong black backpack.  Jim McVeigh would like to have the items back if you have them.

WHAT A SUCCESS!!!!  The just completed USAPA pickleball tournament was a big success, all thanks to the many volunteers who made it happen.  A big THANK YOU to all who contributed time, energy, food, ideas, etc. to making this a success.  We would like to get together again to visit with our friends while there is time to relax and interact.  With that in mind there will be a PIZZA PARTY AT THE COURTS for all volunteers on Saturday, February 3, at 5:00 pm.  There will be pizza and cake, bring your own chair and beverage of choice.  We can swap stories and adventures from the 4 days.  All volunteers are invited to celebrate, bring your spouses too.

We have recently changed the training program for the club and there is a new schedule.  There has been a third session added and lessons are now divided by skill level.  This will give our instructors smaller groups and allow them to focus their instruction to a narrower range of skills.  The big change is 3.0 lessons will now be on Tuesday evenings at 4:00 pm.  Please see the attached schedule, the change is effective Saturday, February 3.

There have been several changes in the rules for pickleball too.  Although many of them apply to tournament players some will affect club play as well.  We have attached a summary of the new rules and you can see them in their entirety on the web site. We are considering another class to train referees so if that is something you are interested in trying please let a board member or your court coordinator know.  We need to have at least 5 people to hold the class.

Enjoy the game, enjoy your fellow players, and have fun.

Tournament time is upon us again, hardly seems a year ago we were in this same spot.  Plans for the USAPA tournament are going well and with only 3 days before the big opening there is a last minute push to be ready.  If you have not done so already, PLEASE get your wine to John Davis for the raffle and sign up to help him at the raffle table if you can.  We are asking the wine be valued at a minimum of $15.  Please volunteer to help at one of the function tables to support the club and come enjoy some great play over the 4 days. Parking is at a premium with ongoing road construction so bike or walk if possible.
The In-House tournament will be February 22-24 this year, details available on the blog next week (  Gerry Bertrand is the director and will be soliciting for assistance soon.  Sign up forms will be available at the courts beginning January 30.
In the ever expanding world of electronic communication and social interaction the club is seeking to fill a Social Media Chair.  We are very open to the responsibilities of this position but the goal is a web page that is easy to navigate and full of current and relevant information.  We are willing to have the web site established if someone just wants to be the administrator or you can be the web master if you have the interest/skills.  Let a member of the governing board know if this fits your interests to support the club.
FEBRUARY POTLUCK IS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13. Our regular meeting day conflicted with the valentine’s party in the clubhouse so will be together a day earlier this month.  The slate of officers for the upcoming election will be presented at the February meeting.
And as always – the governing board is here to meet the needs of the club and members.  If you have thoughts, comments, or ideas please bring them to a board member.  Or there is always the Rumor of the Month time at the potluck!
See ya at the tournament!  Katie

Mission Royale Pickleball Club

The 7th Annual Mission Royale Pickleball Tournament

January 24th - January 27th

(rain date would be the 28th)

Welcome back to all our friends who have arrived or will be arriving to spend their winter in Mission Royale.  The courts are starting to fill up more and more each day.  Before we know it, the 7th Annual Mission Royale Tournament will be here.

To have a successful tournament, it takes a lot of work before and during the tournament, so we are asking you to please step forward and lend us a hand and volunteer.

Here is list of areas that we are always looking for volunteers:  Hospitality, Concessions, First Aid, Registration, Raffle Tent, Referees, Line Judges for Medal Rounds, Set Up and Take Down, Vendor Set Up, Announcing, Rules, and Pre - Planning.

Now is the time that we are looking for people who are interested in learning how to work the Event Desk and Registration Table.  We are also looking for anyone who has an interest in learning How To Run a Tournament.  You would have the opportunity to shadow any of our current captains.

So please volunteer and be part of our 7th Annual tournament!

Contact Tony Catrine at or call me at 414-828-6093.  We are planning on having a meeting to lay out the ground work the first week of November.  If you are not here yet, but will be here during our tournament, please volunteer and let me know the area(s) you would like to be involved in.

The Committee that was formed to develop alternatives for new courts, including costs, has completed their work.  A big THANK YOU to Robert Graham, Glen Berger, and Duncan Ross for all the amazing work they did in developing the alternatives and assigning costs.  Please remember these are NOT decision documents but a reference tool for future discussions on possibilities for additional courts.  If you have questions feel free to contact one of these gentlemen or any member of the governing body.  Save Travels to all and HAPPY SUMMER!!
